Two commercial calcium carbonate powders, with different mean particle size were dispersed in water and bodies were formed by slip casting. The drying-shrinkage behaviour (Bigot's curves) of the green slip cast bodies was then followed and correlated with their porous microstructure, as determined by Hg porosimetry. The relationship existing among the main features of the Bigot's curves (total shrinkage and Critical Moisture Content and their slope in the first stage of drying), the characteristics of the starting powders and suspensions (particle size and solid loading) and the porous structure of the slip cast bodies are presented.
