Development and characteristics of a deep-seated slope movement

Example on a deep-seated slope movement in southeast Taiwan, this study investigates the development of movement masses and accordingly characterizing the movement by filed monitoring results from the past two decades. Three distinct movement masses can be identified. The maximum depth of movement masses is 75m with a ratio of sliding depth to length of 0.17. The displacements of each mass are independent, e.g. the upper movement mass moves quicker and greater than the lower one after a heavy rainfall. Additionally, the movement rates vary with time. Sudden increase and stop are observed. In this case, schistosity plays an important role to slope movement. The above characteristics may provide as valuable and practical information for further investigation on deep-seated slope movement.
