CenterPoint Energy Field Services (CEFS) began an aggressive campaign during the 2ndrnQuarter of 2009 to gather and treat the natural gas being produced in the region of thernUnited States known as the Haynesville Shale, which is centralized in northern Louisiana.rnThis campaign was very successful and CEFS was able to negotiate deals that mayrneventually bring up to 2.0 BCF of gas into the CenterPoint system. However, the price ofrnthis success was that CenterPoint had to commit to having the first treating plant on linernwithin 24 weeks of being awarded the contract.rnThe gas from the Haynesville Shale is essentially a methane stream with small amountsrnof nitrogen, ethane, varying amounts of carbon dioxide (CO_2) and hydrogen sulfidern(H2S). The CO_2 content can range from as low as 2.5% to as high as 7.5%, with the H2Srncontent ranging from less than 1 ppmv to as much as 500 ppmv. To meet theirrncommitments, CEFS chose to install 1,000 gpm amine plants that would be designed torntreat an inlet gas stream to downstream pipeline tariff levels.
