Since the reform and "door-opening", Chinese metallurgical industry has got rapid and continuous development. In 1997, the steel output reached to 107.57 million tons and steel products 97 million tons which took the number one place in the world. With the growth of steel production, we have approached to international level in resources, technology, marketing and price. A remarkable progress has also been made in abandoning obsolete process & equipment, optimizing products structure, strengthening energy saving and reducing consumption. However, compared with the developed countries, a gap still exists.
