摘要

We present a systematic experimental investigation of the generation and subsequentevolution of dynamic failure modes in model composite laminates and sandwich structures subjected tolow-speed impact. High-speed photography and dynamic photoelasticity were utilized to study the natureand sequence of such failure modes. In all cases, delamination appeared first. The shear-dominateddelamination crack kinked into the core layer, then, propagated as the opening-dominated matrix crack inthe adjacent weak layer.
