摘要

Shear behavior of an orthogonal 3D Carbon/Carbon composite was examined atroom temperature. In present paper, representative test methods including Iosipescu, off-axis tensileand off-axis compressive tests with inclined angles of 10°, 22.5° and 45° were employed. Sheardamage mechanisms appeared in each test method were investigated by in-situ, SEM and microfocusedX-ray CT observations. From results of experiments and observations, it was concluded thatdramatic shear non-linearity of the 3D C/C composite is attributed to the debonding of fiber bundlesand subsequent sliding at debonded interfaces. Highest and lowest shear strengths were obtained inthe Iosipescu and 45° off-axis tensile tests, respectively. Dependence of apparent shear behavior ontest methods were discussed in relation to observed damage mechanisms.
