Modelling and comparison of radar processing schemes for helicopter detection and discrimination

The need for detecting moving and/or hovering helicopters in land-based and naval radar is briefly reviewed, along with the inherent difficulties of detecting near-stationary, low-altitude targets in cluttered areas. The need for discriminating helicopters from aircraft is also motivated as a means of improving detection performance, in addition to obvious operational implications. Processing schemes are suggested and compared to this purpose.
