Safeguard stories of living monuments (unstable towns of the region of Umbria)

With the competence passage of the consolidation of villages affected or threatened by landslides from the Italian State to the Regions, the Region of Umbria dealt with problems that have historically plagued towns like Orvieto and Todi with new and in-depth studies, having the support of the National Research Council and of the Universities. Thanks to the resources made available through special laws, it was possible to deal with the issue of hydrogeological risk in a comprehensive and integrated way, combining the mitigation of risk with the valorization of the inhabited centres and the restoration and enhancement of artistic, historical and archaeological sites. The experience gained in Orvieto and Todi inspired all the subsequent action taken by the Region of Umbria in the mitigation of hydrogeological instability. The result is the adoption of a multidisciplinary approach in the studies needed to define the solutions and the monitoring and maintenance of the works and of the areas of intervention.
