In this paper, a three dimensional elastic-plastic finite element model is established and employed to analyze the pile-soil-cap interaction of composite foundation. The behavior of the piles, the pile cap and surrounding soils are assumed to be linear elastic while the property of the soils beneath the pile cap is elastic-plastic. The infinite and interface elements are developed to simulate the remote soil and pile-soil interface properties, respectively. It is found that the reacting force at the comers of pile cop is the largest, the medium at the edges and the smallest at the internal parts. Moreover, reacting forces tend to be uniformly distributed as the external loads acting on the pile cap increases. The applicability and accuracy of the present method are verified by the results of a static load test on a nine-pile group under the pile cap and ADINA finite element program. It is observed that the present numerical results match very well with the experimental data.
