Coal-mining activity can usually produce crushed rock areas, which probably develop into the ways of water burst if water-bearing strata are in the neighborhood. To obtain water flow characteristic for differently crushed areas, both testing and numerical techniques are employed here. In experiment, a special instrument was self-designed to contain crushed rocks and transfer pressure, and flow velocity and pressure difference were output for further analysis. In simulation, some fluid-solid coupling models were built to illustrate the distribution feather of flow field in crushed areas. The results suggest that both pressure and block size can influence the seepage flow through crushed areas. Heavy compression contributes big water-pressure difference and low flow velocity, and large block size produces small water-pressure difference and high flow velocity, vice versa. When little rock blocks organize into a crushed area, the flow paths are generally unnoticeable.
