The geophysical inverse problems can be regarded as nonlinear operator problems after discrete. The homotopy methods based on path tracking algorithm are effective methods for these problems. Conventional homotopy methods sometimes suffer from the problem of segment jumping and the complete path may not be traced. A robust path-tracking algorithm for solving systems of nonlinear equations is proposed in this paper. The method presented here can avoid the phenomenon of jumping from one segment of homotopy path to another by the step size-monitoring algorithm based on the local curvature. The examples are successful.
