Radioactive waste contains many important elementslike cesium ion. Generally, the separation of these elements isexpensive and exotic. However, electrically switched ionexchange (ESIX) process is attractive method for separationwhich involves an ion exchange film deposited onto anelectrode surface. In this study, a graphite electrode was usedand nickel hexacyanocobaltate was introduced into the graphiteelectrode to improve the capacity for cesium ion separation. Xraytomography was used to characterize nickelhexacyanocobaltate inside the electrode and FTIR was used tocharacterize the prepared material. Cyclic voltammogram wasused to measure the ion exchange performance. This techniquewas found to enhance both the removal capacity of cesium andstability of the ion exchange process compared to othertechniques.
