摘要

Radionuclides can be released into the environment byvarious sources and in a variety of conditions. Accidents innuclear facilities as happened in Chernobyl or in Fukushimacaused extensive contaminations by highly volatile nuclideslike cesium or iodine. Furthermore, less volatile elements suchas uranium and plutonium were also dispersed in the near andfar regions around the reactors.In case of Chernobyl, hot particles ranging from 0.1 u0016m upto a few hundred micrometers in diameter were released andcan still be found in the soil close to the nuclear power plant.These particles have been exposed to environmental influencesfor the past thirty years. Due to weathering and subsequentoxidation plutonium, minor actinides and fission products canbe released from these particles. Hence they pose a high radiologicalhealth risk.
