Performance Analysis for UMTS Network DiffServ-based QoS Guarantee Mechanism

As mobile networks evolve towards 3rd, the QoS issue becomes more and more important and many QoS guarantee mechanisms are proposed. However, there are few full UMTS QoS models built, and some latent problems may exit as well. In this paper, we mainly aim at UMTS QoS guarantee in end-to-end QoS. In this paper, a full UMTS model is built, and a DiffServ-based mechanism to guarantee QoS is deployed. In the mechanism, traffic handling is the emphasis and relative algorithms are adopted. Several simulation scenarios are presented to discover the hidden problem. Three aspects are surveyed for analysis and in which end-to-end delay is the main parameters. In these scenarios, we especially consider the case of congestion. In addition, hybrid traffic is introduced to exam their mutual interference.
