Jiangyin Bridge over Yangtse River, located at the middle of Jiangsu Province and 200 km west to Shanghai, is a suspension bridge with a main span of 1385m , which was opened to traffic in September 1999. This Bridge is the main crossing project in the two arterial highways, one from Beijing to Shanghai and the other along the coastline. This paper mainly deals with its general information and the problems encountered in the construction, such as soil layer stability of anchorage block, the quality of the main cables, the manufacture and construction of the box girder and the pavements. The north anchorage is settled in alluvial soil, bedrock's embedded deep about 90m under soil. After comparison, the open caisson with the embedded depth of 58m was chosen, and special measures were chosen to guarantee its stability and small displacement. The main cables were constructed with PWS method, in addition, a series of methods like controlling the rotation of strands were adopted to ensure quality. The void ratio of the main cables is 16.6%. To ensure the quality of the assembling of box girders, long line framework method was used; welded seam shrinkage and camber was left before welding, so welding session was trouble-free. Although paving bituminous concrete on the steel box girder in the temperature range from -15℃ to 70℃ is very difficult, the main goal was reached by the co-operation of experts from home and abroad.
