Three emission factors respectively for carbon dioxide (CO2) and two non-CO2greenhouse gases that is to say carbon monoxide (CO),oxides of nitrogen (NOX) have beencomputed.Given particular circumstances of Benin as far as the land transport sector is concerned,circumstancessummarized as follows: 1) upsurge in second-hand vehicles imported mainly fromEurope and Asia,average of age 10-15 years,2) appearance of two-wheeled vehicles transportmode,3) poor maintenance of motors,4) kind of fossil-fuel used,it would seem that IntergovernmentalPanel on Climate Change default data used in previous inventory in this sector was inappropriatefor the country.It sounds very wise to use data reflecting national circumstances.To this end,measurements of emitted gases concentration in flue gas have been carried out for18 technologies of cars in Pollution Control Branch of National Centre of Road Security usingFACOM Automotive Equipment.On this basis,emission factors have been estimated.This paper supports IPCC’s recommendations related to the development and use of countryspecificdata with a view to reducing uncertainties associated with emissions estimates.
