Common reed and wheat straw pulps prepared by a new formic acid based pulping method (Chempolis process), are evaluated holistically as constituents of a paper product. The links of the pulp material to the external world are formed via its relations to the pulping, bleaching and papermaking processes, on one hand, and via its relations to various testing methods, on the other hand. For representing the paper product properties in a systematic manner, suitable for knowledge integration purposes, a new unified modeling language (known as the PSSP language) is used. The holistic model thus formed characterizes the product along its life span from pulping via bleaching to papermaking.
