Recent development of GIS makes it possible to develop a distributed hydrological model. Nevertheless, there are some unsolved problems in real fully distributed hydrological model. An alternative conceptual distributed hydrological model has been put forward. Actually, how to determine the water storage capacity in every gird is becoming an important problem in conceptual distributed hydrological model. Taking the similarity between the maximum of grid soil moisture deficiency and the grid topographic index into account, we found that a logarithmic Weibull function relation exists between them. And then a method to calculate the grid storage capacity from the grid topographic index was proposed. The method was applied in a grid distributed hydrological model with incompact structure, and the results shown that in ungauged basin we can get some hydrologic parameters from geographic parameters. And this may be a new way for hydrological modeling.
