OFFSHORE C.O.T.S. METHODS REDUCE COSTS, INCREASE READINESS

The use of ships for Floating Production, Deep Water Drilling and Hydrocarbon transportation has increased dramatically in recent years. A crucial issue is how to keep these assets in a high state of availability (or readiness), at minimum cost. This objective has driven the offshore industry to develop and prove methods for keeping ships at sea, or on station, for extended periods between dockings. The 'AIMS' (Asset Integrity Management System) method is a C.O.T.S ( Commercial Off The Shelf) solution to this requirement involving new ways of condition assessment of structure, machinery and systems, supported by on line maintenance methods. 'AIMS' comprises: 1. a Critically based Inspection and Maintenance Plans to ensure focus on the components that matter. This maximises reliability and availability of the asset while increasing the value of each dollar spent. 2. 'Low Impact' survey and maintenance methods to carry out tasks at sea, which would normally be carried out at dry-dock. 3. Programme management and Plan reviews. This paper describes the 'AIMS' method, it's track record and application to both commercial and military ships.
