We measured the dispersion states of various kinds of solid particles in the liquid phase within a stirred vessel using an electrical resistance tomography system we developed. We conducted measurements with suspending particles, such as polystyrene, glass beads and synthetic adsorbent. We established a method of estimating the impeller rotational speed required for a homogeneous dispersion state, N_(hd), in the whole region of a stirred vessel using A_(ave) defined based on the average concentration in each plane, A_(ave), obtained from the electrical resistance tomography images. We, subsequently, examined N_(hd) for various physical properties and concentrations of particles in comparison with the critical agitator speed for just suspension, N_(js), proposed by Zwietering.
