Urban Public Transportation and Operations in Mexico City

Inhabitants of the Mexico City Metropolitan Area (MCMA) are served by several modes of transportation. The MCMA includes two jurisdictions. One is the Mexico City Federal District (DF by its Spanish acronym) which is the capital city of the Republic of Mexico. The second includes 27 municipalities of the surrounding State of Mexico (MS), called Valle Cuautitlan Texcoco (VCT by its Spanish acronym). Transit vehicles include short units known as minibuses, buses, trolleybuses, light rail trains, as well as light metro and metro cars. Taxicabs and private automobiles are also popular. A brief description of the MCMA public transportation system is as follows.
