Combined Visualization of Anatomical Structure and Ventricles for Cardiac Diagnosis

In this paper, we present a novel technique for improving volume rendering quality by integrating medical volume data and model information. The work aims at getting understanding of complex anatomical structures and their interrelationships for medical diagnosis and therapy planning. We first provide selective volume rendering for visualizing a specific object and then the combined visualization of selective volume rendering and conventional volume rendering. We use here EBCT cardiac images and model information of left ventricle and right ventricle. We offer the 3D left ventricular shape and 3D right ventricular shape in selective volume rendering and the combination of two or more volumes include anatomical volume and specific object volume. Our selective volume rendering is effective to suppress parts of the anatomical volume on the surface level and accelerate if using distance transformed volume. The main effect of the combined visualization is merging several volumes depending on weighting factor and allowing users to control the weighting factor interactively and helping the understanding of shapes and relative position of 3D left ventricle and 3D right ventricle in complex anatomical structures.
