Progressive meshes offer an efficient continuous-resolution representation for level of detail modeling. In this paper, a new progressive mesh representation called FRPM is introduced to support faster restoration and to avoid ambiguous operations, which appear in other progressive mesh representations. FRPM can support arbitrary meshes of any topological type, including both normalized meshes and meshes whose vector normal is not regularized. In addition, a new mesh simplification scheme is presented for obtaining the new progressive mesh representation.
