Supporting collaborative buliding design: a multi-agent approach

Building design activity continues over long periods of time with infrequent merging of revised design knowledge by the various groups. In order to tackle the domain complexity, we investigate a multi-agent approach to classify and process design tasks. The requirement for this high-level collaboration is translated into task descriptions whose solutions are to be fulfilled by agents. Each domain agent is associated with a specific design aspect. The total design solutions are achieved through multi-agents cooperation. In this paper, we present some interim experience as a case study from a building compliance checking project to discuss these issues.
