ASTM D 9 Fire Response Test Methods for Electrical Insulating Materials

The scope of ASTM Committee D 9 states that our purpose is; "The development of test methods, practices, definitions, and specifications and the promotion of knowledge and research relating to solid and solidifying fluid electrical insulating materials". One important aspect of this work is the development of fire response test methods to evaluate the suitability of materials, or combination of materials, to perform under specified conditions. ASTM Committee D 9 celebrated its 90th anniversary in March 1999. Since it's beginning various subcommittees have been formed in response to needs in the organization or in the industry (wire and cable). At the present, Committee D 9 has approximately 160 members and 190 standards.
