Greenhouse gas monitoring; network sensing; atmospheric modeling; urban emissions%Here we present BEACO_2N, a novel, high-density urban greenhouse gas monitoring network based on a high volume of low-cost sensors. While previous monitoring campaigns have focused on higher precision and accuracy instrumentation, our observations nonetheless demonstrate adequate reliability and quality to capture CO_2 fluctuations relevant to the urban environment. The viability of this low-cost platform opens the door for networks with unprecedented spatial density, which our preliminary results indicate to be superior to prior studies' low density, high quality approaches when constraining emissions inventories via inversion modeling. Future work will leverage the unique capabilities of the real BEACO_2N dataset to graduate from simulations and project emissions trends at the scale of individual urban sources and sinks.
