Abstract: This paper presents a comparison among three of themost used velocity measurement techniques applied inexperimental fluid dynamics: Hot Wire Anemometry (HWA),Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) and Particle ImageVelocimetry (PIV). The comparison is done on a fullydeveloped turbulent jet. The measurements are processedin time and in space, according to the different natureof the measurement techniques. Results expressed interms of velocity plots, turbulent fluctuations andintegral length, scales are compared. The differentcapabilities of the three techniques are discussed,their complementarity is outlined, also related to theuncertainty and resolution of the three measurementtechniques.!8
