Session summary: past and future directionsof process control research

摘要

The tradition of assessing the current status of process control research and attempting to look forward to identify trends and opportunities goes back to the first Chemical Process Control (CPC) conference at Asilomar in 1976. Indeed, it is arguable that the conception of the whole CPC series arose from a concern about the direction that process control research was taking in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and about the perceived "large gap" between theory and practice in process control at that time. These themes have been revisited at each subsequent CPC, conference organizers taking a variety of different appraoches to stimulate reflection and debate.
