Abstract: The excess loss caused by random core radius fluctuation for communication fibers, taking the presence of the core into account, is researched through the phenomenon of coupling between the dominant mode and cladding modes. The presence of the core has an effect on the field shape of cladding modes. In addition, the dependence of excess loss on the number of cladding modes is given.!
