Valve-regulated Lead Acid Battery (VRLA Battery) suitable for use in EV (Electric Vehicle) with high output power and high regenerative charge characteristics has been developed by enhancing performance of lead acid battery that is superior in reliability and cost performance.rnIn order to solve the problem of low energy density of LA battery compared with the other batteries such as Ni/MH battery and Li-ion rechargeable battery, fast charge has been studied as an important method to increase EV's range per charge. However, fast charge has a problem that charging is stopped insufficiently due to a sudden increase in voltage and battery temperature during constant current charge at high rate.rnIn this paper, we focus on pulse charge as a solution to extend the total driving distance of EV while using LA battery. For this purpose, the following were evaluated; the influence of high-rate pulse charge on fast charge performance and active materials, and the influence of partial charge cycle including equalization charge on cycle life performance.
