Traction Battery plays a key role in Electric Vehicles (EVs) just as the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) in traditional vehicles. It can be said that the overall performance of electric vehicles is subject to the performance of traction battery. Due to the difference of electrode materials, manufacture technics and actual using environment of traction battery, many problems related to battery may occur during operation, such as shot circuit, overcharge, over-discharge. Thus a battery monitoring system is imperative for monitoring and improving battery's, electrical vehicle's, performance. This paper presents a new judgement standard for discharging ending status of Lead-Acid battery and introduces the principle of the Automatic Monitoring System of Traction Battery (AMSTB) for Evs using this standard. This system can help to monitor battery status, including voltage and current, and mitigate the problem of EV battery uneven state during charging and discharging. Based on the Intel series microcontroller, the AMSTB can be applied to dynamic circulating detection of EV battery parameters at high speed.
