The influence of cutting conditions on ultra-precision cutting of beta type of titanium alloy Ti-22V-4Al with a coated-cemented-carbide tool has been evaluated in terms of finished surface roughness. First of all the effect of the cutting depth in pre-cutting on the surface roughness are examined and discussed. From pre-cutting beyond the cutting depth of 10 μm, according to the experimental results, the crystal grain boundary steps are found to increase steeply. After pre-cutting depth of 5 μm, on the basis of the results, the effect of the finish cutting depth upon the finished surface roughness is investigated.
