The world moves now in a context of accelerated change, complexity and uncertainty. As a result of its mission, as a locomotive of scientific advance and human resources qualification, academia faces new challenges, particularly in the area of Microelectronic-Based Systems (MBS) education. In order to cope with the technologic state-of-the-art as well as its trends, classic courses on microelectronics must be complemented with hardware/software co-design course(s), and with reliability and testing course(s), in order to satisfy present product Quality requirements. Moreover, technical, economical and organizational fundamentals need to be considered, namely Concurrent Engineering. Finally, continuing education courses (using multimedia) are key enablers, to provide professionals the ability to develop the skills that allow them to master the factors of change.
