The suitability of relevant pollutants degrading microorganisms for MULTIBARRIER purposes was tested, their phenotypic and genotypic properties (DGGE, RFLP) were evaluated in order to select specific well-performing populations suitable for the MULTIBARRIER technology. Ecotoxicity analysis of landfill leachates was performed by testing of kinetic parameters of bacteria Pseudomonas sp. P2 by Bioscreen~(~R) apparatus. The toxicity of individual pollutants found in leachates and groundwater (PCE, TCE, benzene, toluene, xylene zinc and arsenic) or their mixtures at various concentrations was tested with biological system of luminescent bacteria Vibrio fischeri (Microtox~(~R), Lumac~(~R)), and by Bioscreen~(~R). For the same samples Ames Salmonella typhimurium His - test of mutagenicity was used.
