Solar simulators, steady-state or pulsed type, used for electrical performance tests of photovoltaic devices for space applications, are characterised towards spectrometric properties according to the requirements depicted in the relevant ECSS standard. These spectrometric parameters are the temporal instability and spatial non-uniformity of the incident light intensity on the testing plane and the distribution of spectral irradiance and its match to the AMO reference spectrum during the time period of the test performance. For the characterisation of pulsed solar simulators appropriate measuring equipment has been utilised at SPASOLAB, a photodiode array spectroradiometer for spectrum measurements in the wavelength range from 300 nm to 2000 nm, and a system for the measurements of temporal instability and spatial non-uniformity. The pulsed solar simulator of SPASOLAB has been characterised regarding to these spectrometric parameters for light intensities ranging from 0.7 to 25 AM0 solar constants and for the test areas of a solar coupon (25 × 25 cm~2), of a solar module (80 × 100 cm~2), as well as for the maximum attainable test area in the facility room. Results are presented in this study.
