Microalloying is successfully applied in classical metallurgy to the well-known HSLA steel production. Instead, its application in sintered structural steel elaboration is still under investigation. The present paper, representing a continuation of some author's previous works related to the Nb and Ti using as microalloying elements in sintered steels, investigates the possibility of V using for this purpose. By thermodynamic calculations it has been established that V has the same capability to form stable carbides / nitrides in sintering conditions as Nb and Ti. Also, that these compounds have a high solubility in austenite, while their solubility in ferrite is much less. This solubility decreasing leads to their precipitation at cooling after sintering or by a subsequent aging treatment, determining a finer microstructure and a strengthening effect, with mechanical properties of sintered steels enhancing.
