摘要

The objective of this investigation is to study the potential of ASAR images for roughness and soil moisture monitoring over bare fields. The influence of incidence angle and polarisation were studied. ASAR/ENVISAT acquisitions, soil moisture and roughness measurements were taken at the same time over bare agricultural fields in the study site which located in the centre of France (latitude 48° 10′N and longitude 01° 48′ E). The relationships between backscattering coefficient and soil surface parameters (roughness and soil moisture) were examined as a function of the incidence angle and polarisation. The potential of ASAR images were investigated from nine ASAR images in mode alternating polarisation (swaths: IS6 (40°), IS5 (37°), IS4 (34°), IS2 (24°) and IS 1 (20°); polarisations: HH-HV and HH-VV).
