The interferometric phase components related to elevation, displacement, and atmospheric delay can be separated using a multi-image framework. Unambiguous interpretation of the interferometric phase is however hampered by a considerable amount of noise in the interferograms, caused by temporal and geometric decorrelation. The "Permanent Scatterer" (PS) technique, developed at POLIMI in the last few years, is a processing strategy that enables simultaneous estimation of elevation error and linear deformation rate at individual points that remain coherent over time. The approach described here is a generalization of the PS technique, enabling estimation of displacements that deviate significantly from the linear model.
