摘要

In situ screening and sampling tools are being used for reliable data collection on soil and groundwater contaminated areas. These tools are deployed from Cone Penetrometer (CPT) trucks (see Fig. 1) and give exact simultaneous information about soil strata (tip resistance and friction ratio) and the vertical as well as horizontal distribution of the contamination plume. Maximum depths between 20 - 40 m bgs. are reached. Landfill sites are investigated mainly with the Conductivity cone. The ROST™ system (Rapid Optical Screening Tool) is used for investigation of oil contaminated sites like gasworks, refineries or tank storage areas. For screening of chlorinated solvents in both the saturated and unsaturated zone the MIP system (Membrane Interface Probe) is used. After screening and delineation of the contamination plume it is then possible and even recommended to take in situ samples. This can be done either with the BAT system which allows to collect in situ groundwater samples, or the MOSTAP soil sampler, which is used to take 1 m sediment cores.
