Observed settlements of footings on Sao Paulo tertiary soils, Brazil

The observation of settlements of a 17 stories building supported by footings in downtown Sao Paulo Brazil was made. Even though the soil was very plastic and submerged clay, it behaved as drained and so it was considered. Behaving as a big mat, the footings presented a representative deformation modulus of 300 MPa, whereas as isolated footings the value of the deformation modulus was 142 MPa.
