In Italy and in European Union fire protection of building is permitted using eitherrnperformance based approach or prescriptive rules. In the work the Author describes how thernapplication to historical buildings of the two approaches is carried out in Italy, showing thernmain problems which arise with their use in a so rich and complex context.
