This paper describes a unique technique for the rapid prototyping of metallic parts by beam technology, which utilizes the concept of layer manufacturing with laser cladding/generating process. The effect of the various parameters on the build up structure and the relationship between various layers are considered. The results show that the beam interaction time greatly affect the structural development of the end product with respect to its shape, strength and quality. A few test examples are demonstrated briefly.
