The present work shows the results of welded aluminium sheets (alloy AA6016) using a diffusion cooled 2kW CO_2- laser and two different types of GMA welding systems (single- and twin-torch system). For the desing and the construction of welded components it is necessary to determine the mechanical properties (e.g., the stiffness under static or dynamic loading) and the metallurgical properties of these alloys. Therefore the static properties of the laser welded samples are only slightly improved (up to 10percent), but in dynamic testing the life cycle-fatigue is increased nearly 50percent compared to the values reached with the GMA welding systems.
