Structure and texture inhomogeneities, produced in the commercial Ti-alloy by laser nitriding and following surface plastic deformation, were studied by use of X-ray diffractometry. By study of successive layers the primary attention was given to their texture features, which are very sensitive to slight changes in processes of structure formation. Various aspects of structure formation in the studied many-phase system under laser treatment, including character of crystallization in the melting zone, redistribution of nitrogen, interconnection of different phases, effects of the surface plastic deformation, are analyzed on the basis of X-ray data.
