THE IASI COLD BOX SUBSYSTEM (CBS)A PASSIVE CRYOCOOLER FOR CRYOGENIC DETECTORS OPTICS

For Infra Red observation of the Earth,the detection performance is major and requires to cooldown the quantic detectors and optics of the focal planeto cryogenic temperature. The challenge that consists inmanaging simultaneously thermal cooling and stabilityas well as mechanical discoupling and accurate focalplane components location has been fully achieved bythe IASI CBS (Cold Box Subsystem). In the frame ofthe IASI instrument (Infrared Atmospheric SoundingInterferometer), issued from a collaboration betweenFrench space agency (CNES) and EUMETSAT, AlcatelSpace (ASP) has developed, qualified andmanufactured a very efficient and compact passivecryocooler, under CNES contract. The three flightmodels of this cryocooler have been successfully testedon ground and delivered in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
