Ti alloys are used as materials of bone fixations and artificial joints in orthopedics. Ti-6A1-4V is used generally, but it is known that vanadium ions have strong cytotoxicity. Recently, we reported niobium ions significantly promoted the differentiation of osteoblasts and confirmed the Ti-Zr-Nb alloys had a good osteocompatibility in vitro and in vivo.
