The way towards a wider diffusion of sustainable production and consumption patterns requires thedevelopment of tools able to integrate sustainability into supply chain, from raw materials to end of life considering alife cycle perspective. Energy planning process at local scale requires an integrated assessment to select the bestoption, considering resources of all types (natural human and capital) available in the specific context. Manyenvironmental, economic, technological and social issues should be considered to define a sustainability level of atechnological choice. In this study, we present a decision support system for assessing sustainability of using localbiomasses as energy source. The aim of the research is to define a set of indicators to assess feasibility of biomasssources exploitation, underlying critical issues and potential areas of optimization providing a valuable tool fordecision makers that need to plan a sustainable energy production system using forest biomass resources.
