Closing material and nutrient cycles is one of the main challenges mankind is faced with today to ensure availabilityof resources on the one hand and to solve waste problems on the other. Increasingly waste turns into a resource that istreated like other trade commodities. Today, waste biomass can be used as feed for numerous conversiontechnologies. However, waste biomass contains valuable compounds (e.g. nutrients, organic carbon, energy) that caneasily be underutilized or lost, depending on the technology used. Within the FERTI-MINE project differentconversion technologies are applied on preselected feed-materials. The processes are optimised to produce soilamendmentthat fits the standards of the Compost Directive, European Biochar Certificate and mineral fertilizeradmission rules. This way waste material can be upgraded into a valuable product with an economic value.
