A conceptual design is presented for an advanced biorefinery employing a Consolidated Bioprocessing(CBP) scheme for acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) fermentation employing wheat straw (WS) as feedstock. Hydrogenand methane production stages are considered for electricity cogeneration purposes. A novel extraction-distillationstage is included for separating butanol and acetone from the fermentation broth. A parametric analysis of butanoltotal production cost (TPC) was carried out for a mid-size plant capacity considering the WS availability in westMexico. Different plant capacities (100, 250, 500, 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 ton/day) and WS purchasing pricedepending on its polysaccharide content (PC) with values of 45, 50, 55 and 60% w/w were analyzed. WS purchasingprices were considered from 6.00 USD/ton for composted WS (45% PC) to 75.00 USD/ton for new WS (60% PC).The surplus electricity and acetone produced are sold as byproducts. The best case scenario was obtained using aplant capacity of 2,000 ton/day and the lowest PC (45%) with a butanol TPC of 0.66 USD/kg. A feasible plantcapacity in accordance to the regions feedstock availability corresponds to 500 ton/day, achieving a TPC of 0.97USD/kg with 45% PC.
