The KLP process, now in operation in 8 units worldwide, has provided an economic method for the recovery of butadiene from crude C_4 streams. Used in conjunction with any single-stage extraction technology, the KLP process produces the highest purity butadiene product. That technology has now been improved to provide even greater economic benefits. In summary, the advantages of the KLP process are: 1. Nearly 100% conversion of acetylenes 2. Product acetylene concentration of 5 ppm total acetylenes 3. Lower capital and utility requirements than two-stage extractive distillation 4. Elimination of concentrated acetylene waste streams 5. New catalyst rejuvenation system for reduced cost catalyst activity maintenance 6. Reduced catalyst inventory.
